Our History

The date on the church cornerstone is 1820. The first church was a brown frame building with sliding wooden windows which was also used as a school.

In October of 1949, the white frame building was dismantled and much of the material was saved and used in the present brick structure.

In 1993, the Family Life Center was added. In September of 1995 a mural was completed on the back wall of the youth room in the Family Life Center by Russ Farmer, a former youth director. Taking a year and a half to complete, this mural of detail, color and inspiration, is a teaching tool as well as a splendid work of art.

Cain’s Chapel – 1890 – white frame building with glass windows and green blinds. Lumber for building donated by Dr. J. M. Shelton and his wife, Mary Amanda Northrup Shelton, granddaughter of Elisha and Margaret Lewis Cain. In October of 1949, the white frame building was dismantled and much of the material was saved and used in the present brick structure.

In 1975, a steeple was added atop the structure and a Fellowship Hall was also added that year.

In 1994 a display case was built for Homecoming. The case is now housed in the vestibule of the Chapel and is filled with documents, pictures, and several bits of memorabilia.

Present day Worship Center.
