Community Care
Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’ - Matthew 5:37-40 (NRSV)
In these times of economic difficulty families sometimes find themselves unable to meet their financial obligations for the basic necessities of life. One of the ways Cain’s Chapel UMC serves Christ and the Slapout community is by trying to help our neighbors (regardless of their church affiliation) through the “Slapout Ministerial Association”.
This separate financial entity was created solely for the purpose of helping our neighbors. It is funded totally by donations specifically designated for this purpose and those funds are maintained separately from the rest of our church funding; every penny donated goes to helping our neighbors in need in the Slapout community. All applicants are carefully screened and vetted to make sure that our very limited funds are used to help those who are truly in need.
Whether you are a Cain’s Chapel member or not, if God has financially blessed you with enough to live comfortably please consider sharing His blessings by helping others in our community.
Currently, financial donations can only be made by cash or check. Checks should be made out to “Slapout Ministerial Association” and can be dropped off at the church office or mailed to: Cain’s Chapel UMC, 96 Lightwood Rd., Deatsville, AL 36022. (Mailing cash is not advised.)
Additionally, as part of our ministry of caring for others in our community, each Christmas the Cain’s Chapel family extends a helping hand to neighbors in our community who need a little extra help in making their Christmas a little brighter. The boxes shown in the slideshow below are filled with food and children’s gifts and Christian love in hopes of making the lives of others a little happier this Christmas season. This year we were able to help 25 area families through this program. With your help we could do even more next year.
May God bless you richly as you follow Christ’s command to love our neighbors.
