Prayer Shawl Ministry

What is a Prayer Shawl?

Knitters and crocheters craft prayer shawls for someone in need of comfort, encouragement and a reminder of God’s comforting love. While making the shawls, the crafter prays for God to use the shawl to comfort the person who will receive it. The group also prays over each shawl before it is given to the recipient.

In the winter of 2006, the Prayer Shawl Ministry was started at Cain’s Chapel.  Made up of both experienced and novice crafters, the members of our Prayer Shawl Ministry work hard to provide beautiful crocheted and knitted shawls for people who are battling an extended illness, or experiencing any of a number of difficult situations in their lives.

How can I get involved?

Most importantly, please pray for this ministry and the people that may be touched by making or receiving a prayer shawl.  You may also choose to make a donation to cover the costs of yarn and supplies.  The materials for each shawl costs approximately $20.  Of course, we welcome you to join the group of knitters and crocheters and learn to craft a shawl yourself. No experience is necessary—we will teach you what you need to know.

How do I get started?

The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00—7:00 PM in the New Beginnings Sunday School class in the Family Life Center. We take time to pray for this ministry, discuss who should receive the next prayer shawl, and we spend time fellowshipping as we knit and crochet. Most of the knitting or crocheting is done on your own.

If you know of someone who is going through a difficult time and would be blessed by the receipt of one of these shawls, please contact the church office At 569-2375.
